History

Founded in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Berlin/Potsdam Jewish Film Festival is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. This unique cultural event in Germany, aimed at film lovers of any background, is a showcase for new cinema that explores Jewish life in Germany and around the world. The Festival's strength is its offering of perspectives rarely seen in the daily stream of headlines and broadcast news. The film screenings provide a lively forum for dialogue and debate about a wide range of issues, drawing larger audiences every year.

Jewish Film Festival 2014

The Jewish Film Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2014. In honour of this occasion, this year’s festival opens with the German premiere of “Fading Gigolo” by John Turturro, who not only screenwrote and directed the film but will also be present at the screening. "Fading Gigolo" is a turbulent romantic comedy that features Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Sofía Vergara and Vanessa Paradis.

For those who do not get the chance to watch “Fading Gigolo” or dread romantic comedies, there is still ample opportunity to enjoy the silver screen’s tributes to Jewish life. A number of feature films, documentaries and short films from Israel, Germany, France, USA, Poland, Norway, UK, Russia, the Netherlands and Argentina provide varied entertainment at this 20 year festival anniversary.
